Tucked into the hills of rural Hood River, Poole Family Farms has found its niche growing beautifully tree-ripened, fresh fruit, including plump, mouthwatering cherries that ripen on the tree every summer. Poole Family Farms is a small family business fully focused on growing the sweetest fruit possible.
Founded in 1946 by Denton and Gladys Poole, the homestead originally consisted of a small Jersey dairy farm and orchard. However, when the current owners, Don and Cindy Poole (affectionately known to most as "Papa and Mama Poole"), took over the farm in 1979 the decision was made to sell the cows and plant the remaining pastureland into orchard, and the sweet little farm as we know it today started to take shape.
Over the years, the farm has grown to include a wide variety of fruit-bearing trees, including pears, apples, cherries, peaches, nectarines, and plums. Papa & Mama Poole still work side by side, tending to the orchards to ensue every piece of fruit is joyfully grown with love. They open their farm to the public every year at the end of June for U-Pick where customers can fill their buckets with fresh, tree-ripened cherries and other assorted fruits, while basking in the gorgeous summer sun. If picking is not your cup of tea, you can also enjoy freshly harvested fruit out of Mama Poole's cute little fruitstand, where she will squeeze your neck and tell you all about the history of how the farm came to be. You are sure to leave with a smile in your heart!
